Shame on the Rutland Herald Editorial Staff and also Chris Graff in the October 20th Sunday paper. Your editorial entitled "Minority Rule" ought to go back to the cutting room, or perhaps the trash can.

Apparently the Herald and Democrats would like to orchestrate a campaign of twisted or mis-information in their usual effort to steer the democrats to a November win, something they have never been able to do without mountains of help from the media.

Someone ought to remind them and the voters that following the Constitution, as written, is not a criminal offense, and that our Constitution was written as the basis for governance in a "Republic," based on majority rule!

If the Herald staff and Democrats feel that elections should be based simply on the outcome of the popular vote, they should further suggest that we throw out our constitutional government and the legislature, and the Governor’s office for that matter, and let each vote counted decide the election under a form of government known as "true democracy" several hundred of which have failed throughout the world, but which liberals here think we should turn to make it easier for them to lie, cheat, steal or whatever it takes, helped by the media, to win elections.

Further, I suggest that if media and liberals want to change the Constitution, they should stick to the process within it, that allows change through a popular vote of the people. It’s called a "Referendum." There is no provision in the Constitution for these the Courts and liberal majority influence that follows no rule.

In the meantime, the whole story should be told to the confused public on your pages, with an apology for usurping your influential positions so flagrantly. Then Chris Graff should stop referring to Con Hogan as an "angry outsider" in this race. Hogan isn’t angry at all. He is meticulous, articulate, well spoken, and focused on real issues. Angry is the other guys fighting over things like the legislative election process, instead of the issues, and the outsiders are the same two guys who have fed at the trough of government, living well outside the mainstream for collectively 50 years.

I am by no secret "Pro Con." Con Hogan needs your help in November and we desperately need his after election day.

Yours truly,

Phil Stannard, Sr.

Dear Neighbor and Friend:

Thank you for supporting my effort to qualify for the Campaign Financing Grant under Vermont’s Campaign Finance Reform law. I regret to inform you that I fell a few people short of qualification. As you may recall, I needed to successfully solicit 750 contributions from registered Vermont voters, for $50.00 or less. My July 15th financial disclosures to the Secretary of State showed that I fell short of the total number needed by that deadline.

In additions to thanking you for having faith in me, I thank Chris and George Crafts for a tremendous effort in Southern Vermont, and Ann Show for her tireless efforts on behalf of our Vermont causes.

Thousands of voters were contacted, and all of the money we raised was spent on brochures, letters, posters and postage and our campaign account shows a $380.00 deficit at this writing. I will however, return any contributions upon the contributor’s request, as personal funds become available for reimbursements.

While hundreds of good working Vermonters did rally to our cause, we were disappointed to find a great deal of apathy and hopelessness amongst voters, as well as a reluctance for the trade organizations and lobby groups to endorse any candidates for fear of reprisals after November elections. It is interesting to note, that to our knowledge no candidates for Statewide office were able to qualify, not event hose with major party organizations behind them.

Brian Dubie is the Republican candidate for Lt. Governor. Since July 15, Brian and I have met several and engaged in several serous discussions to determine which of us was more electable and best able to organize and carry out a successful general election campaign. Our joint decision was that his name recognition from the 2000 race and well organized Republican backing gives him the better chance of success and especially if I do not cut his support base by seeking Independent and Republican votes as an opponent.

An agreement was born of those discussions, which offers the best hope of success this November, and produces improved opportunities for me after this election and in future election processes. I will be working closely with Brian throughout this season and beyond, both on issues and strategies, and will endorse his candidacy beginning today.

Additionally, it is important to note that I continue STRONG support of "Con" Cornelius Hogan, "Independent" candidate for Governor. He is the most capable and proven leader that has come along in decades. I urge you to support this fine gentleman as well.

Meanwhile, I will maintain my website on the issues through the November election season. I hope you will visit the site and use it to help yourself in developing choices in all of the Vermont races this year.

Please contact me, Con, or Brian any time to discuss the issues and the campaign. Thanks again.

Best Regards,

Fair Haven, Vermont
